Biomaterials are non-viable materials that can be fixed to replace or repair missing tissue. They may be of the natural source or produced in a laboratory. Biomaterials, such as bone substitutes and collagen membranes, are used frequently in regenerative medicine. Presently researchers developing the biomaterials and bio-fabrication techniques to treat complex bone defects, to provide optimal osseointegration of implants, and to battle infection.
